Self Storage Tips
Our self-storage units are designed to allow some air circulation into the space. The air will be a similar temperature and level of relative humidity as the air outside. You should avoid storing things that are affected by extreme hot or cold temperatures.
Rent the correct size unit you need. Always allow for air flow and use strips of wood or pallets underneath your items to allow air circulation. We do not recommend placing items against the walls or directly on the floor.
Plan your storage space! Place the items you will need to access most often in the front of your unit.
Make up a list of your stored items and keep it in a safe place. Make sure to update list when you add or remove items. We are not responsible for the items you place in your unit.
Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE (i.e., paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, paint, etc.). Our rules and regulations prohibit the storage of these items.
Do not store perishable items or other food products.
Always use a good quality lock on your door. Locks are available for purchase.
Use uniform size boxes for easy stacking. Be sure your boxes are strong enough to hold 25 to 30 lbs.
Mark contents on outside of boxes. Don't over pack boxes and stack lighter boxes on top of heavier boxes.
Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in paper and packed in sturdy boxes. Stack these boxes on top.
Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in cardboard or mirror boxes, marked "Fragile", and stacked on end.
Avoid placing sharp or heavy objects on top of upholstered furniture.
Sofas and love-seats can be stored on end to save floor space. Always place a protective cover over and under furniture. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top.
Remove legs from tables, if possible, to save space.
Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for pictures, knickknacks, china, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in table clothes, towels, or blankets or packing papers to prevent breakage
Larger appliances make excellent "packing cases" for blankets, towels, and clothes.
If you stand your mattress on its side, prop it up so it stands straight. It will tend to bend out of shape and become lumpy if you don't.
Remember these are your valuables, so store them with care.
